Nine years after a botched robbery in Los Andreas, former bank robber Mike Downey is living under witness protection with his family in Los Andreas, Sun City, under the alias Mike Montana. When Mike discovers his wife, Anna, has been sleeping with her yoga coach, he chases the coach to a mansion and destroys it out of anger by auto. The mansions owner turns out to be the girlfriend of Russian drug lord Viktor Romanov who demands compensation under the threat of further violence. Mike goes back into a life of crime to obtain the money and enlists accomplice Franklin Dogg who previously worked as a repossession agent for an Turkish car salesman. Together, they perform a jewellery shop heist to help pay the debt. Mikes sole surviving partner in the Big Bank robbery, drug dealer Darius Tryndamere, hears of the jewellery heist and realises that it was Mikes handiwork.
